FSI within Aortic Arch Model over Cardiac Cycle and Influence of Wall Stiffness on Wall Stress in Layered Wall
نویسندگان
چکیده
The aorta is the largest artery that delivers blood from the heart to the rest of the body, and many cardiovascular diseases often occur on the aortic arch. The complex mechanical interaction between pulsatile blood flow and wall dynamics in the aortic arch model was simulated by means of computational loose coupling fluid-structure interaction analyses. This study investigates the pulsatile flow field in the aortic arch, shows the wall displacement and aorta deformation over cardiac cycle, determines wall stresses, evaluated the influence of wall stiffness, and provides physical insight into the biomechanics of aortic dissection. The numerical layered aortic model may prove useful for studying biomechanical analysis and the pathogeneses of aortic dissection.

Stress analysis in a layered aortic arch model under pulsatile blood flow
BACKGROUND Many cardiovascular diseases, such as aortic dissection, frequently occur on the aortic arch and fluid-structure interactions play an important role in the cardiovascular system. Mechanical stress is crucial in the functioning of the cardiovascular system; therefore, stress analysis is a useful tool for understanding vascular pathophysiology. The present study is concerned with the s...
متن کاملPresentation of a Non-invasive Method of Estimating Arterial Stiffness by Modeling Blood Flow and Arterial Wall Based on the Determination of Elastic Module of Arterial Wall
Introduction: Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. Several indices have been introduced to estimate the arterial stiffness based on the changes in the brachial blood pressure. Since the substitution of the blood pressure changes in the central arteries such as carotid with the blood pressure changes in the brachial results in error in the blood...
متن کاملSelf-Gated CINE MRI for Combined Contrast-Enhanced Imaging and Wall-Stiffness Measurements of Murine Aortic Atherosclerotic Lesions
BACKGROUND High-resolution contrast-enhanced imaging of the murine atherosclerotic vessel wall is difficult due to unpredictable flow artifacts, motion of the thin artery wall and problems with flow suppression in the presence of a circulating contrast agent. METHODS AND RESULTS We applied a 2D-FLASH retrospective-gated CINE MRI method at 9.4T to characterize atherosclerotic plaques and vesse...
متن کاملReinforced Soil Wall Analysis under Working Stress Conditions Using a Two Phase Model with the Introduction of a New Design Parameter
A previously introduced two phase model was used to assess its capability in predicting the behavior of reinforced soil walls under working stress conditions. The two phase model is a homogenization method based on the virtual work theorem. The reinforced soil medium is considered as the superposition of two continuous phases, the reinforcement and matrix phases that interact within the medium....
متن کاملFluid structure interaction of patient specific abdominal aortic aneurysms: a comparison with solid stress models
BACKGROUND Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a dilatation of the aortic wall, which can rupture, if left untreated. Previous work has shown that, maximum diameter is not a reliable determinant of AAA rupture. However, it is currently the most widely accepted indicator. Wall stress may be a better indicator and promising patient specific results from structural models using static pressure, hav...
